Norman’s Hut – Rustic, Ready, Real

If you’re after something more stripped-down but still rugged and comfortable, Norman’s Hut is your match. Sleeps up to seven, and while you’ll need to bring your own linen or sleeping bags, firewood is supplied so you can settle into the classic hut-in-the-bush feel. Basic cooking utensils and a gas cooktop are provided, allowing you to prep your own meals without fuss. Running at NZ$200 per night, it’s an outstanding value for those wanting a real high-country atmosphere without sacrificing access to comfort and location.

The Tram Car – True Out-Back Experience

For the bold, the minimalist and the adventurer, The Tram Car offers a unique stay — unserviced, self-sufficient, and completely immersed in the wild. Sleeping up to four, you’ll heat up using a pot-belly stove, bring your own linen or sleeping bags, and rely on provided firewood. At NZ$100 per night, this is an immersive, knock-back-the-noise, get-into-the-country kind of stay.
